Overview
Oncam Connect can be used to record video from non-Oncam cameras so these can be integrated into the Oncam End to End Video Management Solution. Oncam Connect is available as a Device or as a Download.
Oncam can provide an ISO image to allow you to run Oncam Connect as a virtual machine, using a virtualization platform such as, for example, Hyper-V, or install it onto your own non-Oncam hardware.
Warning! Any existing data on your own hardware will be lost and it can only be used as Oncam Connect after installation.
System Requirements
The Oncam Connect ISO can be installed as a VM or on any 64-bit hardware which meets the following minimum requirements.
| Architecture | x64 / AMD64 |
| Memory | 4GB |
| Processor | A minimum of a 1 GHz CPU is required. |
| Number of Cores | 4 Cores |
| Storage | At least 250GB. (See Note 1) |
| Ethernet connection | 1 Interface @ 1Gbps (See Note 2) |
Note 1: The storage hardware will be used to record video from your non-Oncam cameras.
- It must be fast enough to record the combined video bandwidth from all cameras simultaneously.
- It must be large enough to be able to meet your required video retention time.
- The installer will create a partition of 34G bytes on the single disk to store the Operating System and will use the rest for storing recorded video.
Note 2: If more than one Ethernet interface is present, only the first interface encountered by the installer will be used.
The ISO is based on Ubuntu Linux.
Installation as a Virtual Machine
Oncam Connect can be run as a VM using a virtualization platform such as, for example, Hyper-V.
- Set up the VM to at least satisfy the minimum requirements using 1 disk (See note 1). If the secure boot option is used for Hyper-V then use the UEFI CA Secure Boot template.
- Configure the ISO image to be in the DVD drive.
- Boot from the DVD drive and install the Oncam Connect software. The installer does not require any input from a user during installation
- At the end of installation the DVD contents should be ejected by the installer. Press enter to reboot the VM.
- Oncam Connect is then ready to be registered. See the Quick Start Guide for more details here
Note 1: Hyper-V does not currently support Oncam Connect VM with 2 hard disks but this configuration does work using Virtual Box.
Installation onto Non-Oncam Hardware
The ISO file should be copied to a USB flash drive or a DVD using appropriate software for creating bootable media.
- Your non-Oncam hardware should be configured to boot from the bootable ISO image.
- Insert the bootable media (flash drive or DVD) and boot your hardware to install Oncam Connect. The installer does not require any input from a user during installation.
- After installation is complete the bootable media should be removed when instructed. Press enter to reboot the hardware.
- Oncam Connect is then ready to be registered. See the Quick Start Guide for more details here
The installer will install the O/S onto the first disk that is found. It will use a second disk, if present, to record the video from your cameras. Please adjust your disk order if necessary.
If more than one Ethernet interface is present, only the first interface encountered by the installer will be used to connect your Oncam Connect to the network.
